Pyrrhic victory (PIR-ik VIK-tuh-ree) noun
A victory won at too great a cost
No. This is not about the Iraq war. This is about my tongue, my very own personal weapon of mass destruction. I've tamed it a little in the past few years, but my tongue has sliced through the hearts of those I love the most. I win the war by whittling down my opponents self-esteem to pink dust. A pyrrhic victory not ever worth it.
It hasn't happened lately because I keep these words swirling around in my head before I spit them out. Now those words flood through heated blood, swirling and baking in my anger and then return to my brain where they are transformed to eloquence and executed like gold medal winning quadruple axel on Olympic ice. So no one gets hurt. Except my brain of course.

i struggle with taming my tongue, too. i've hurt people in the past by saying things in the heat of anger. but once you've said it, you cant take it back, so i try really really hard to think before i speak and not to confront someone about something while i'm still angry.
Hmmm my wit is always blamed on the Irish in me - I am exactly the same. I don't fight often but when I do I know the exact thing that I can say that will drop you to your knees.
Its a bad habit for me and is now only reserved for the most evil of infractions and the worst of mandkind!

I agree - it is a challenge. I think having kids makes the 'taming of the tongue' that much more important. They seem to pick up on every little thing.
