Vote

A few things to remember as you vote:

  • The FY 2007 National Defense Authorization Act includes only a 2.2 percent pay raise for military families - the lowest in 12 years. The House asked for 2.7 but went with the 2.2 percent offered by the Bush administration.

  • The DIC offset was rejected in NDAA.

  • The National Guard left over $30 million in equipment in Iraq and needs over $40 million.

Remind your Congressperson that they work for us.

Ooooh....that stinky pay raise really makes me mad. How can the same people who send soldiers to war think that 2.2% is an adequate "thank you" for selfless service?? Don't worry...I will DEFINITELY keep these things in mind. Sometimes politics is so discouraging...

That 2.2% pay raise is an across the board raise for all federal employees. You can't give the military a higher raise than the rest of the federal employees in that process. The congress has to vote on targeted pay raises to address specific increases for soldiers. Please do not thik I am in any way defending this administration. We certainly need those targeted pay raises as well, but perhaps a newly elected Democratic congress can address that issue. Get out and vote! All Rebublicans registered to vote in their home state of denial are welcome to come over to the dark side.

Sorry WPJ, not true.. In 2005 the President proposed a 1.5 percent raise for civilians and a 3.5 percent raise for service members. However, Congress enacted a 3.5 percent raise for both because of pressure from Congressmen that have a high level of federal employees in their districts (can we say ours). This year was much the same. The White House proposed a 2.3 increase for civilians and 3.1 for the military, again because of pressure Congress gave 3.1 to all.

Thus, if Congress wanted to help out the boys and girls in uniform they could - they choose not to. They choose to talk about us in their stump speeches to gain support then forsake us when we are getting killed on the battlefield. They choose to turn a blind eye when we are shipped off to do impossible things that we pay for with our blood. I truly believe that if our civilian leaders had kids in the military they would have had stopped to think “maybe it is not a good idea to invade a country with HUMVEES that have no armor,” maybe they would have listened to warnings that the War in Iraq would turn into an insurgency and might have asked some hard questions like: “What is your plan B Mr. Secretary” just in case the outcome was not children dancing with gum drop eyes singing American the Great. Maybe they would have looked at history and seen that the Middle East has ALWAYS treated outsides as occupiers and then killed them.

I am so tired of this nation of bumper sticker patriots, thinking they can put a yellow ribbon on the back of their car and forget about it - bullshit, ask hard questions, support your troops with more then your mouths, vote FOR us not FOR those that ONLY talk about us. I am a Iraq Vet, I earned the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart I called both of my Senators, and my Representative because I wanted to meet with them and tell them what I thought about Iraq NONE of them have granted me an audience and they told me flat out they were “too busy with the upcoming election but they will try and squeeze me in next term.” WHAT has happened to this country, our leaders are so detached from us they would rather talk about Iraq during their campaign rather then talk to a vet (one that was there training the Iraq Army by the way) - they care way more about getting reelected then they do about taking care of us.

I think it's perfectly OKAY to give soldiers a higher raise than other federal employees...and I'm pretty sure lots of other Americans would agree.
